The Shin Yoshiwara, 1883

Comments - Terrific scene of beauties relaxing in a teahouse in the Shin Yoshiwara. The woman standing in the center smiles as she looks over her shoulder, a fan decorated with an owl in her hand. Her turquoise outer kimono features a scenes of herons along the hem. At left, a beauty in an olive green kimono carries in a shamisen while the woman next to her adjusts a hairpin. The room opens onto a fenced courtyard with a pond and stone lanterns. An attractive design, beautifully detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and burnishing on the black obi. The first time we've offered this subject.
