Original Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892) Japanese Woodblock Print
Sumo Wrestler and Samurai in a Dragon Kimono, 1870

Series; Patrons Receive Good Fortune from the Kabuki Theater, 1870

Patrons Receive Good Fortune from the Kabuki Theater - Yoshitoshi's 1870 series "Patrons Receive Good Fortune from the Kabuki Theater" (Hiiki uke kabuki yori) is not well documented. Keyes 270 lists the series title but no individual subjects or number of prints. The series is also recorded in "Yoshitoshi: Masterpieces from the Ed Freis Collection" with one print illustrated, identified as Ichikawa Danjuro. Each print features a kabuki portrait beneath a panel featuring a nature subject. The first time we've seen this rare Yoshitoshi series. Would make a great addition to a Yoshitoshi collection.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse from previous mounting. Small repair, a few creases at edges. Please see photos for details.
