Actors Compared to the Six Jewel Rivers, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring three actors compared to Japan's famous Six Jewel Rivers. The kneeling nun holding a pail of flowers is probably Bando Shuka I as the Buddhist nun Seigen. She looks up with a frown at a beauty holding a hat and wearing a kimono that includes sections of black fabric decorated with writing. A handsome design.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small repair, creasing throughout. Please see photos for details.
