Series; The Tokaido Road: One Look Worth a Thousand Ryo

The Tokaido Road: One Look Worth a Thousand Ryo - Handsome design from a collaborative series pairing kabuki actors with stations on the famed Tokaido Road. Large, half-length figures are separated by a border of clouds from the landscape views above, with Kunichika providing the portraits and Hiroshige III the Tokaido views. The ryo in the series title was a unit of gold currency used prior to the Meiji era. The large expressive figures are nicely set off by the attractive landscape backgrounds. A rarely seen series.
