Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
Courtesan Shigeoka

Comments - Charming portrait of the courtesan Shigeoka out for a stroll. She wears a brown kimono with a scene along the hem of cattails growing in the water with a reflected full moon. Her hair is arranged in two large loops, adorned with many hairpins and combs. Her geta clogs have three "teeth," identifying her as an oiran or high-ranking courtesan. A classic Edo beauty portrait.
