Comments - Handsome kabuki triptych depicting five otokodate or chivalrous commoners, each carrying or wearing a white towel. They were similar boldly patterned kimono featuring a design of large seals with writing over red under robes. The fellow in the center grins as he looks back over his shoulder, gripping the ends of the towel draped over his shoulder. The two men at left frown back at him. At right, an angry looking fellow takes a toothpick from his mouth as he glares at his companion, who seems somewhat taken aback, his eyes wide with surprise. From right, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the Tomizawa Jinnai, Nakamura Kantaro as Ohyariko Denbei, Nakamura Shikan IV as Ibishi Jinnai, Ichikawa Beisho as Takasago Hanbei, and Ichikawa Kuzo III as Shoki Hanbei. Nice expressive figures set off by a bright blue background, detailed with fine line work in the hair and delicate cloth embossing in the towels.
