A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Kuniyoshi Prints - One of the great masters of ukiyo-e woodblocks, Kuniyoshi is perhaps best known for his warrior prints, but he worked in a range of subjects. In addition to dramatic samurai and battle scenes, he also created kabuki, beauty, landscape, and comic designs, each expertly drawn and composed. Don't miss this opportunity to acquire a classic woodblock by this great Edo era artist at a low opening bid price.

Nitta Sachujo Yoshisada - Terrific Kuniyoshi portrait of the great general Nitta Yoshisada, a supporter of the exiled Emperor Go-Daigo who fought against the Hojo Clan. He is shown seated on a folding stool dressed in full armor, wearing a horned battle helmet topped with a dragon. He stares to the side unflinchingly, a scowl on his face, gripping his tasseled command baton in one hand. A tent wall sags behind him, and a mountain silhouetted in gray looms in the distance, the view framed by rustic wooden pilings. Wonderful detail in the beautiful armor and robes, with fine shading in the night sky. A great samurai subject.
