Rope and Hook Tanzaku Print

Tanzaku Prints by Zeshin - Charming design from a series of twelve tanzaku prints by Zeshin. Tanzaku or "poem slip" prints are narrow, vertical format woodblocks with a printed verse or space to write a poem. This traditional Japanese form dates back hundreds of years, and is still in use today, with tanzaku decorating bamboo branches for the annual Tanabata Festival. Subjects include seasonal images such as cherry blossoms in spring and irises in summer, and a box of beans for throwing to ward off evil during the Setsubun Festival. Other prints depict objects or nature scenes. The first time we've seen this interesting group.
