Original Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870 - 1949) Japanese Woodblock Print
Lake Yamanaka, 1939

Tsuchiya Koitsu - After moving to Tokyo at age fifteen, Koitsu studied for many years with the woodblock artist Kobayashi Kiyochika. Known for his beautiful landscape prints with a dramatic use of light and shade, Koitsu was one of the leaders of the shin-hanga or new print movement in 20th century Japan.

Comments - Beautiful landscape of Mt. Fuji seen from Lake Yamanaka. Bare trees covered with snow frame a view of the magnificent mountain, the peak covered with snow and shaded in beautiful tones of blue and gray. A lone boatman poles his craft across the quiet, glassy water. A striking design that would make a wonderful framed presentation.
