Theaters in Nicho-machi, circa 1832 - 1838 - Terrific scene of the bustling Nicho theater district, the sky darkening as evening falls. The street is packed with patrons, servants, and porters, hurrying to and from performances and delivering goods. Portraits of actors in their latest roles hang above the theater at left, with gray and rose banners and red paper lanterns lining the road. A wonderful image capturing the lively crowds of this popular area. A fascinating subject for a kabuki enthusiast.
