Illustration of the Grand Maneuvers of the Army and the Navy, 1890

Comments - Handsome illustration of the Japanese Army and Navy engaged in military maneuvers. Large warships line the shore as small boats convey troops to the landing site, where soldiers are already engaged in a mock battle. At lower right, men fire a cannon, while the Meiji Emperor and his advisors view the exercises from lower left. An interesting historic subject with an attractively detailed setting. Includes burnishing on the black uniforms and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone.

Artist - Toshimasa (active circa 1894)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Vertical centerfold in center panel. A few stains at edges. Please see photos for details.
