Original Terashima Shimei (1892 - 1975) Japanese Woodblock Print
Portrait of a Koto Player

Comments - Lovely shin-hanga portrait of a beauty wearing picks on her fingers for playing the koto, her hair pulled back with a pink bow. She looks ahead with a wistful smile, clasping her hands together before her. Her kimono is detailed with narrows white stripes and large softly colored blossoms, tied with a bridge blue leaf print obi and red tie-dyed band. The vivid red background creates a striking contrast with the light tones of the figures. A handsome design by a rarely seen artist.
