Series; A Collection of Modern Beauties

Courtesan on a Verandah in Snow, 1855 - Lovely portrait of a courtesan on a verandah in winter, waving a greeting as she looks down over the railing with a happy smile. She wears an intricately patterned striped outer kimono over several under robes with tie-dyed collars, and a red tie-dyed obi that reverses to black. Poem slips hanging from the lanterns under the eaves flutter in the breeze, and snow falls through the wintry gray sky, a pagoda spire in the distance. Includes burnishing on the black area of the obi. A wonderfully detailed design and a charming Edo era beauty subject, in beautiful condition. A great choice for a collector.
