Kiso Yoshinaka and Tomoe Gozen

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene depicting the Taira warrior Kiso Yoshinaka preparing for battle alongside Tomoe gozen, the famous female warrior. At right, Lady Tomoe tightens the cord around the end of her sleeve using her teeth, her long hair falling over her back. She has already put on armor plates over her legs. In the center, Yoshinaka frowns at her angrily, dressed in a fine suit of armor with a bow in his hand. At left, the samurai's mistress, Lady Yamabuki, looks down with a sorrowful smile as she holds out her beloved's helmet. The screen behind Tomoe features an interesting depiction of red-faced characters in foreign dress. From left, the actors are Nakamura Fukusuke IV, Onoe Kikugoro V, and Ichikawa Danjuro IX. A colorful image with large figures and nice detail in the armor and hair.
