Courtesans as Street Knights, 1865 - Handsome kabuki triptych depicting four courtesans as otokodate or street knights. The two women at left chat with each other as one adjusts a dotted towel draped over her shoulder. The woman in the center smiles at her companion, the handle of her sword visible beneath her checked kimono sleeve. The woman at right stands with her back to the viewer, showcasing her striking triptych patterned with thunderclouds, raindrops, and pine sprigs. A blue violet and white band patterned with colorful diamonds and circular crests runs across the top of the image. From left, the actors are Bando Mitsugoro VI as Kinezumi Okichi, Sawamura Tossho II as Osaraba Oden, Ichimura Kakitsu IV as Subashiri Okuma, and Onoe Kikujiro II as Kumikire Oroku. An interesting subject, detailed with fine line work in the hair.
