Gathering Mushrooms, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Charming scene of a beauty and a girl gathering mushrooms. The kneeling matron shows off a large mushroom she has just picked to her young companion, who carries several threaded on a reed. The girl wears a red kimono patterned with cherry blossoms, her hair arranged in a large loop atop her head. A pine tree frames a view of the water beyond. An interesting and unusual subject, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and trim.
