Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a monk lifting a stone water basin high above his head, grimacing with rage as he glares at the samurai standing at left, who holds a cloth-wrapped parcel in his outstretched hand. Another warrior has tumbled to the ground beside the monk, gripping his cased sword with one hand, the fringe trim of his armor swinging with his motion. At right, a beauty smiles happily as she looks over her shoulder, seemingly unaware of the conflict taking place. She wears a blue outer robe over a red kimono patterned with butterflies and tied with a pink obi decorated with flowers. In the center, steps edged with small logs lead to a house, the view framed by blossoming cherry trees. An intriguing subject with expressive figures. Includes faint embossing on the blue robe.
