Katagiri Saizo Confronting Sasano Saizo, 1861

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of the commoner Katagiri Saizo confronting Sasano Saizo on the stone steps at night as the nobleman Yonosuke looks on with an angry frown, an umbrella over his shoulder. At right, Katagiri leans forwards with an enraged expression, biding his lower lip as he adjusts the knot of his obi. At left, Sasano watches him with a worried frown. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Ichizo, Ichikawa Kodanji, and Nakamura Fukusuke. Nice large expressive figures with an interesting setting.
