Nakamura Fukusuke I as Otokodate Harukoma no Yoshiro, 1859 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Fukusuke I as the otokodate or street knight Harukoma no Yoshiro. He grins as he looks over his shoulder, holding onto the towel draped around his neck. His kimono includes a New Year's decoration of branches adorned with lucky objects, including a target with an arrow through it, and a horse puppet used for a traditional holiday dance performance. The title cartouche takes the form of a book at upper right, with a text panel on an open book next to it. A terrific expressive figure, detailed with embossing on the towel, and burnishing on the black kimono collar.
