Comments - Striking image of an eagle perched on a branch, beautifully rendered in black and shades of gray with wonderful attention to detail. Born in Kyoto, Shoichi Kitamura studied printing with Akira Kurosaki, graduating from the Kyoto Seika University, Department of Printmaking. Kitamura has given workshops and collaborated with artists internationally, and is a member of the Kyoto Woodblock Printing Craft Association and the Association for Preserving the Technical Skills of Carving and Printing Ukiyo-e Woodblock Prints, actively promoting and preserving this traditional Japanese artform. He carved and printed the blocks himself, with Unsodo of Kyoto distributing the prints. A stunning design, pencil signed by the artist in the bottom margin.
