Comments - Terrific kabuki triptych featuring portraits of three popular actors in character. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Sansho (Gonjuro I), Sawamura Tanosuke III, and Onoe Kikugoro V. The beauty in the center grins with a folding fan held between her teeth, using both hands to wrap her obi about her waist. The commoner at right smiles back at her as he reaches into a small cloth pouch. He wears a blue summer kimono patterned with pine branches, a dotted towel draped over his shoulder. The fellow at left adjusts a blue towel draped around his neck as he looks up with a frown. A handsome design with large expressive figures set against rows of writing bordered by a simulated red lacquer frame. Nicely colored and detailed with fine line work in the hair.
