Red Snappers

Series; Comparison of Flowers (Hana kurabe)

Comparison of Flowers (Hana kurabe) - Charming original painting for Zeshin's series "Comparison of Flowers." Along with flowers and plants, the series features a wide variety of subjects, from people visiting a temple or climbing a hill to still-lifes and animals. Zeshin studied painting with the great artists of the Maruyama-Shijo School in Kyoto. The school's style combined the direct observation and realism of Western artists with traditional Japanese painting techniques. Some paintings feature a signature in ink or a painted seal while others do not. An interesting and attractive group.
