The 47 Ronin, Act 7: The Ichiriki Teahouse in Gion, 1872 - Great kabuki scene illustrating Act 7 from the famous play "Kanadehon Chushingura." Yuranosuke has just discovered the courtesan Okaru spying on him at the Ichiriki Teahouse while he was reading a secret message about the vendetta. He frowns angrily at right, holding a folding fan, as he offers to buy out Okaru's contract, planning to kill her to keep her quiet. Okaru tilts her head with a smile, seemingly unaware of the danger she is in. From left, the actors are Iwai Hanshiro VIII and Kawarazaki Sansho I. A handsome design with large figures, set against a red background patterned with Yuranosuke's crest and the ronins' traditional dogtooth border.
