Series; Portraits from Hit Plays of Both Historical Stories and Modern Life
Bando Hikosaburo V as Fukuoka Mitsugi, 1858 - Great kabuki portrait of Bando Hikosaburo V as Fukuoka Mitsugi, a young man possessed by the spirit of a bloodthirsty sword that causes him to commit murder. Here, he leans forward with an angry frown as he grips the haunted weapon, loose hairs on the side of his face giving him a disheveled appearance. He watches the silhouettes on the shoji windows at upper right of beauties performing the famous Ise Ondo dance, lanterns blowing in the night breeze under the eaves outside. A handsome design with an atmospheric setting.
