Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Dismayed Commoner, 1843 - 1847

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of a commoner looking over his shoulder with a dismayed expression, his mouth slightly agape. He wears a striped coat over a plaid kimono tucked up at the waist over violet leggings, a blue cloth wrapped about his neck against the cold. A border of clouds separates the figures from a nighttime view of the waterfront, with a lumberyard at right. A nice expressive figure.
