Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Oboshi Yuranosuke, 1859

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Oboshi Yuranosuke, the leader the famous 47 ronin from the classic play "Kanadehon Chushingura." He looks up with a grim frown as he scans the dark night sky just before the attack on Moronao's palace. He carries his battle helmet in his hand, and the end of his tasseled command baton can be seen above his shoulder at left. He wears the ronin's traditional black and white dogtooth bordered rove over a gray kimono and suit of armor, a white sash tied around his forehead. A fine expressive image, detailed with faint cloth embossing on the white areas of the kimono.
