Sawamura Tanosuke III as Ushiwaka and Ichikawa Ichizo III as Futoshi, 1860

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of Sawamura Tanosuke III as Ushiwaka, the young Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and Ichikawa Ichizo III as the yakko or footman Futoshi. Ushiwaka plays a flute, playfully looking out of the corners of his eyes over his shoulder. He wears a blue robe patterned with paulownia over a red kimono, the sleeves featuring torii gates against a blue sky. His servant scowls unhappily as he looks up, gripping the handle of a lantern. He wears a furry black robe with an intricately decorated collar. A crescent moon glows in the evening sky above. Nice expressive figures, detailed with embossing on the white kimono trim.

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2"
