Onoe Kikugoro IV as the Wetnurse Shigenoi

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from a drama about the nursemaid Shigenoi, shown here looking down in alarm she has just realized that Sankichi, a young packhorse driver, is the child she was forced to give up at birth. Sadly, because of her high position taking care of the Princess Shirabe, she can never be a real mother to him and decides not to reveal her secret. Here, the boy looks up at her with an eager smile as he proposes a game to lift the spirits of Shirabe. A poignant scene featuring Onoe Kikugoro IV as Shigenoi.
