Text for the Ninth Month, 1843 - 1847 - Charming scene of a beauty fitting a paper collar to support the petals of a large chrysanthemum during the Chrysanthemum Festival. She smiles as she works, bending over the tall bloom. A bench behind her holds paper circles, scissors, and slender bamboo poles to prop up flowers. The text panel above takes the form of a scroll unrolling with Genji symbols across the bottom. The first time we've seen this attractive design.
