Empress Jingu Attacks the Three Korean Kingdoms; Tiger Hunt, 1856 - Fantastic depiction of the Empress Jingu's army during her conquest of Korea in the third century. Here, the warriors confront a huge group of tigers during a battle. In the center, a samurai on horseback stabs at an enormous cat with his pole arm, the tiger biting the weapon as it tumbles to the ground. At center right, another warrior has a tiger in a head lock under his arm. At lower left, a samurai kneels atop a sprawling beast, grabbing its lower jaw with both hands. At upper left, Korean troops can be seen advancing on the attackers. A terrific image with wonderful detail. The first time we've seen this lively design.
