Mariko: Kataoka Ichizo I as Tagohei, 1852 - Interesting kabuki portrait of Kataoka Ichizo I in the role of Tagohei. He stares ahead with a tight-lipped frown, one arm tucked up into the sleeve of his elegant kimono, which features a design of fierce dragons in an ornate grid. He wears an unusual floppy purple hat, his sideburns combed out over his ears. The landscape above shows the village of Mariko nestled at the foot of the mountains, with thatched roof homes at left and cherry trees blooming on the hillside. A bold design, nicely composed.
