Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Nakamura Kanjaku as a Commoner Brandishing a Sword

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Kanjaku as a commoner brandishing a sword, scowling angrily as he holds the weapon between his hands. Before him, a beauty recoils as she thrusts a long letter at him. The background features a red tie-dyed textile pattern, adding graphic impact. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the sword.

Artist - Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 8 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small tear, a couple holes and thinning spots, repaired. Slight soiling and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
