Tabby Cat by Takeuchi Seiho (1864 - 1942)

Original Takeuchi Seiho (1864 - 1942) Japanese Woodblock Print
Tabby Cat

Fuji Arts’ special acquisition from Momose - This print is from a beautiful group of limited edition prints recently acquired from the archives of the publisher, The Momose Print Company of Tokyo. We purchased the entire balance of the publisher’s limited-edition inventory of all designs. They are only available on the secondary market and have become increasingly difficult to find. The prints were originally offered in a shin-hanga limited edition promotion from Momose. The Shinsui and Kaburagi beauties were sold for 280,000 yen each (approx. $2,750).

Comments - Charming image of a tabby cat licking the fur on its back, looking up with green eyes. The softly shaded background focuses all attention on the animal. This print comes from a limited edition of woodblocks published by Momose based on an earlier painting by the artist. The original painting by Seiho is considered an "Important Cultural Property" and is in the collection of the Yamatane Museum of Art in Tokyo. The edition was limited to 300, and comes with the original numbered certificate.

Numbered - 237/300

Artist - Takeuchi Seiho (1864 - 1942)

Image Size - 15 5/8" x 18 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight rippling from printing process. Please note, due to the size, this print may be shipped rolled. Please see photos for details. Excellent overall.
