A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
Nobleman Burning a Letter, 1851 - Interesting kabuki scene of a nobleman burning a letter, holding the paper out in one hand as the flames move up the page. Just below, a man had tumbled to the floor as he yanks on the obi of the beauty at left. She seems unconcerned, smiling happily. At right, another beauty watches with a grin holding her sleeve to her chin, a companion crouching at her side. The room opens onto a view of an extensive palace, with stepping stones leading across the courtyard at left. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed setting.
