Sawamura Tanosuke III as the Servant Okitsu and Ichikawa III Kuzo as Nakama Ichisuke, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene featuring Sawamura Tanosuke III as the servant Okitsu Ichikawa III Kuzo as the commoner Nakama Ichisuke in a scene from the play "Toki Moyaya Minori no Komahiki." The beauty looks at her companion with a smile, holding the collars of her striped outer kimono. Ichisuke seems alarmed, throwing his hand out before him as he leans back, a tight-lipped frown on his face. A border shaded from green to peach features circular medallions of stylized birds in flight runs across the top. Nice large expressive figures in this early Kunichika kabuki design. Detailed with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 18 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Tiny loss at corner, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
