Series; Modern Parodies of Genji, 1863 - 1864
Otome, Chapter 21: Urashima Taro, 1864 - Handsome depiction from the classic tale of the fisherman Urashima Taro. After rescuing a turtle, he was rewarded with a visit to the Dragon Palace under the sea. Upon his return a few days later, he discovered that although he was still a young man, many years had passed. The Dragon Princess had given him a box, telling him not to open it, but when he did, he suddenly turned into an old man, because the box contained his old age. A cloud of mist rises from the box, engulfing the fisherman and rapidly aging him, his face starting to wrinkle and his hair turning white as he throws his arms up in alarm. A wonderful illustration for this famous tale, with fine detail and soft shading. Includes embossing on the white pants.
