Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Ebizako no Ju, 1847

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as the fishmonger Ebizako no Ju in a scene from the play "Genke Hachidai Megumi no Tsuwamono." He is actually the samurai Watanabe Genji Tsuna, a retainer of Minamoto no Raiko, who is in disguise while hunting down enemies. He tilts his head to the side as he eavesdrops, frowning slightly. He wears a brown coat over a gray and black striped kimono tucked up at the waist, and black leggings, a dotted towel draped over his shoulder. A wall with a shoji window can be seen at left.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Hole, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, faint spotting. Please see photos for details.
