A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

An Album of Pictures by Hokusai - Beautiful design from a three volume series of Hokusai's nature, people, and landscape sketches titled "An Album of Pictures by Hokusai" (Hokusai gafu). This 1849 publication includes subjects from an 1820 volume with the same title plus additional illustrations. These inventive scenes range from snow-covered mountains and kacho-e designs to figures from history and legend. Drawn with wonderful calligraphic brush strokes, these lively compositions are highlighted with soft color in gray, pink, and pale blue. A great example of the variety and depth of Hokusai's subjects and his incredible talent. The prints in this group are from a Meiji era edition. A terrific choice for a collector of classic ukiyo-e.
