Comments - Lovely image of two fish with currents of water curving around them. Soft shading adds a sense of movement and depth. Painter Maruyama Okyo developed a style which combined the direct observation and realism of Western artists with traditional Japanese painting techniques. He was a popular artist and teacher, founding the Maruyama School in Kyoto. This reprint has a "Made in Japan" stamp on the reverse, indicating that it was produced for export. The print likely dates from the 1930s. The first time we've offered this handsome design.
