One Hundred Educational Pictures - Charming design by Gyokusho Kawabata from his series "One Hundred Educational Pictures," an instructional painting manual "for elementary school or home use." Theses woodblock prints of traditional Japanese sumi ink paintings feature landscapes, figures, animals, flowers, and plants. Rendered with handsome brushwork, the designs were intended to serve as models to copy. Some of the black and white designs are heightened with color. First published by Yoshikawa Hanshichi in 1898, the prints in this group are from a later edition published by Unsodo.
