Prophecy at the Crossroads at Ten Bells on a Frosty Night - Written by Takeda Korei, the novel "Prophecy at the Crossroads at Ten Bells on a Frosty Night" (Shimoyo no kane juji no tsujiura) was published by Kinjudo (Funazu Chujiro) in 15 volumes starting in 1880, featuring illustrations by Yoshitoshi. The story was a drama about contemporary Meiji era characters rather than historical figures.
This 3 Volume Set - This set of 3 complete volumes has 47 woodblock prints, comprised of 20 diptychs and 7 single panels. One diptych and 3 single panels are in color; the rest are black and white. Each book features a full color cover with traditional stab binding, and a title page inside the front cover with an illustration and text. When placed side by side, the covers form a triptych scene. The right volume is dated Meiji 13 (1880), the center volume is dated Meiji 14 (1881), and the left volume is undated. A rare opportunity to acquire an illustrated book set by Yoshitoshi.

Condition - Prints with good detail as shown. One cover has writing in ink, one title page has a large hole. Inside pages have losses, tears, rubbing, and soiling. Many pages have staining or separation along the fold. One page is torn and missing the outer 1/3 of the page (this affects 1 single panel and 1 diptych). Bindings intact.
