Kuniyoshi's Sixty-nine Post Stations of the
Okegawa: Tamaya Shinbei and Kojoro, 1852 - Terrific illustration of beauty Kojoro paying a visit to her lover Shimbei, who has been imprisoned in a wooden vat for killing her villainous brother. Her young attendant offers him a drink of water as he leans his head out of the tub, holding a small ceramic cup to his lips. The barefoot beauty keeps a lookout, watching over her shoulder as two men approach, one carrying a lantern. An intriguing subject.
