New Play at the Meijiza, 1902

Comments - Interesting depiction of a sumo wrestler and a beauty in a new play at the Meijiza or Meiji Theater in 1901. The wrestler looks over his shoulder with an angry frown, his brows furrowed. He holds a pipe in one hand and wears a black coat over a brown and yellow plaid kimono. The beauty leans forward with a concerned expression, throwing her hands out before her. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black coat.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with somewhat stiff paper. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
