Scene from Kozotte Kuruwa Mimasu no Datezome, 1853 - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Kozotte Kuruwa Mimasu no Datezome" of a struggle taking place on stone staircase. The beauty Shikagiku, the daughter of Akamatsu, holds a banner between her hands as Dote no Dotetsu at her feet tries to pull it away from her. The commoner grimaces angrily, biting his lower lip, his shabby kimono a patchwork of fabrics tied with a rope. At left, the daimyo Ashikaga Jiro looks up at the beauty with a sober frown, an umbrella over his shoulder. He wears an olive green kimono patterned with blinds and flowers tucked into striped pants decorated with blossoms and autumn grasses, his feet spread firmly apart in tall geta clogs. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro VIII, Ichikawa Kodanji IV and Onoe Baiko IV. Nice expressive figures in a handsome setting.
