Scene from Imoseyama onna teikin, 1894 - Interesting kabuki scene from the play commonly known as "Imoseyama onna teikin," which tells the story of a young couple who fall in love, unaware that their families are bitter rivals. Each family owns an estate on the opposite sides of the Yoshino River. The young samurai Koganosuke and the beauty Hinadori decide that they would rather commit suicide together than be separated by their families. Here, the beauty stands beside her mother, Sadaka, who holds a blossoming cherry branch. Behind them, a display draped in red cloth holds a lacquer vase of flowers, a basket, and a lacquer box. A rolled up blind hangs overhead. From left to right, the actors are Nakamura [?] and Onoe Kikugoro V.
