Poems after Snow at the Imperial Palace, 1886

Comments - Lovely court scene of Heian era beauties at the Imperial Palace enjoying poems on a snowy day. At left, a woman raises a blind that looks out onto a snow-covered garden with a pond. At lower right, a beauty sits at a low table writing a verse on a sheet of paper. Shelves at right hold stacks of scrolls, books, and a lacquer box. Beautiful color and detail in the elegant fabrics and household furnishings.

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 18 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Paper remnants on revers from previous backing. A few wormholes and holes, repaired. Wrinkling throughout, slight toning and soiling, a few stains, paper remnant at side. Please see photos for details.
