Nakamura Shikan as a Commoner, 1865

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as a commoner, gripping a wooden post with both hands, one foot through the doorway, a furious expression on his face. In the room behind him, a whetstone rests in a shallow tub of water on the floor, a larger cleaver nearby. Blue violet curtains decorated with white blossoms. Snow blankets the ground outside the door. An expressive figure with a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Yoshiharu (1828 - 1888)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown
