A Fine Triptych Reprint Collection

Summer, Ryogoku Fireworks - Lovely Kuniyoshi triptych of beauties and a small boy playing near the shore and watching the fantastic fireworks near the Ryogoku Bridge. The woman at left carries a small insect cage, while in the center, a young child clamors at his mother's side. Another sits on a bench beneath the gently waving willow branches at right. Boats can be seen in silhouette on the river as fireworks spiral through the sky leaving trails of orange sparks. A charming design with fine bokashi shading in the water and sky.

Woodblock reprints - In the 20th century, artists and publishers collaborated to recreate famous woodblock prints for interested Japanese collectors and Westerners looking for rare designs. New blocks were made, and the prints were painstakingly printed by artisan printers in the same method as the 19th century originals - one block for each color. Woodblock reprints were an opportunity to collect and enjoy a famous design at a small fraction of the price of an original. They still are today.
