Prince Genji Paying a Visit, 1857

Comments - Attractive triptych depicting Prince Genji paying a visit to an elegant home overlooking the water. He kneels in the doorway, having just washed his hands in a basin of water set next to the entry, smiling over his shoulder as a young girl brings him a towel. At left, a kneeling woman arranges flowers, eyeing a blossom critically as she holds a pair of scissors. At lower right, a servant greets a young man delivering a letter in a small black lacquer box tied with a red tasseled cord. Beautiful architectural detail in the setting. A handsome design.
