Comments - Striking image of a rare black peony, with a large blossom atop a slender stem, surrounded by foliage with a bud just beginning to open below. Beautiful shading on the petals and leaves adds dimension, with shimmering gold mica on the stamens. A large format woodblock that would make a handsome and unusual display. This print is from a limited edition of 200, printed by the Adachi Publisher for the Art Vivant Company in 1997, based on a 1934 painting by Gyoshu Hayami that is in the collection of the Yamatane Art Museum.
